Busatte-Tempesta Path
Outdoor activity – Nago Torbole, Lake Garda
The Busatte-Tempesta Path, inaugurated in 2005, is a stunning natural trail often described as a “balcony over Lake Garda”. It is approximately 4 kilometers long and features iron staircases embedded in the rock, creating a unique and scenic route. The Busatte-Tempesta Path offers an unforgettable hiking experience with stunning views and a combination of natural beauty and well-engineered trails, making it a must-visit for outdoor enthusiasts exploring Lake Garda.
By Car: Take the Brenner Motorway and exit at Rovereto Sud. Continue on the SS240 towards Nago-Torbole.
Parking: Park your car at the Busatte Adventure Park. Follow the path next to the Busatte Restaurant, keeping it on your left.
Starting Point: The hike can begin at the Parco delle Busatte in Torbole for those who prefer descending the staircases, or from Tempesta if you wish to start with the staircases in ascent.
From Torbole: Start from the Parco delle Busatte above Torbole. The hike to Tempesta takes about an hour and a half.
From Tempesta: Starting from Tempesta (7 km from Malcesine), the hike towards Torbole involves ascending the staircases.
The path features a recent construction with iron staircases embedded in the rock to navigate level changes, making it a very suggestive route. The trail spans about 4 kilometers, crossing two picturesque promontories known as Corno di Bò (Ox’s Horn) and Salt de la Cavra (Goat’s Leap), with around 400 steps. The views along the way are spectacular, with panoramic sights of Lake Garda and the surrounding nature.
Rest Stops: There are no refreshment points or public restrooms along the path, so it is essential to bring water and snacks.
Sun Exposure: Most of the walk is exposed to the sun, so plan accordingly if hiking with children.
Public Transport: If you prefer not to walk the return journey, you can take ATV Bus Line N.484 from Tempesta back to Torbole.
Duration: The entire hike takes around three hours round trip with a moderate pace.
Elevation: The trail has a 300-meter elevation change and involves stairs with about 400 steps.
Dog-Friendly: The trail is suitable for dogs accustomed to climbing stairs.
The trail is not considered dangerous as all sections are well-marked and protected. Bicycles, mountain bikes, strollers, or wheelchairs are not allowed. Some sections may be slippery due to humidity, so caution is advised. Avoid hiking in winter or during adverse weather conditions due to the risk of ice and slippery surfaces. It is also advisable to avoid excessively hot days as the trail is mostly exposed to the sun.
The Busatte-Tempesta Path is currently closed for maintenance and restoration work. There are no visible signs indicating the imminent resumption of these works.
Mountain Slopes: The trail crosses mountain slopes composed of inclined rock plates that are susceptible to landslides. This geological feature necessitates carefully planned interventions to prevent potential collapses.
Weather Conditions: During intense weather events, the risk of collapses increases significantly. Therefore, consolidating the rock plates is essential to ensure the safety of visitors.
Safety Measures: Without proper consolidation work, further temporary closures of the trail are required for safety reasons.
Adherence to Closures: Visitors are strongly advised to adhere to the closure notices and stay updated on potential reopenings through official channels of the competent authorities.
