The Heller Garden
Botanical Garden – Gardone Riviera, Lake Garda
A botanical haven where diverse plant species and artistic sculptures converge, the André Heller Botanical Garden is a paradise born from the dedication of its founder, Arturo Hruska, who spent over 60 years of his life cultivating this magical spot, inspired by the beauty of Lake Garda.
Situated in Gardone Riviera, the André Heller Botanical Garden transcends a typical plant collection. Home to 3,000 species from various climates worldwide, the garden offers a harmonious blend of global flora in a uniquely valuable environment.
Visitors entering the garden are transported into an almost otherworldly realm. The paths are lined with contemporary sculptures, streams, lily pads, and artificial ponds, creating an immersive experience where Lake Garda’s beauty and temperate climate are integral.
The allure of Lake Garda, with its mild Mediterranean climate and blue waters, has been celebrated for centuries. In the early 20th century, naturalist doctor and dentist Arturo Hruska left Austria and his work with the Czar family to settle in Gardone Riviera, captivated by the region’s beauty. With a passion for travel, nature, and gardens, Hruska established his terraced botanical garden, enriching it with plants discovered during his journeys.
In 1988, Austrian artist André Heller took over the garden, sharing Hruska’s creativity and passion for nature and travel. Heller further developed the garden, integrating contemporary artworks and breathtaking scenic effects that harmonize with the landscape. Today, the André Heller Botanical Garden stands as a tribute to the passion and ingenuity of its founders, offering a unique experience where the splendor of nature and art meld seamlessly.
