The history of the Sanctuary of Madonna del Frassino dates back to May 11, 1510. According to legend, a local farmer named Bartolomeo Broglia was working in his field when he was suddenly attacked by a snake. Terrified, he cried out for the Virgin Mary’s help. In a moment of divine intervention, a small statue of the Madonna appeared in an ash tree (frassino in Italian), and the snake retreated. Interpreting this as a miracle, the farmer quickly spread the news, and the site soon became a place of worship, drawing people from near and far who believed in the Madonna’s miraculous powers.

In honor of this event, a chapel was constructed in 1511, marking the beginning of what would become the Sanctuary of Madonna del Frassino. Over the centuries, the site has been expanded and embellished to accommodate the growing number of pilgrims and to celebrate the divine presence that many believe inhabits this sacred place.
