The Pile Dwelling Museum at Fiavé is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site known as “Prehistoric Pile dwellings around the Alps”. This museum provides an unparalleled insight into the history of European farming communities from the Late Neolithic to the Bronze Age. Excavations have revealed remarkable remains of huts and pile dwellings, showcasing an evolution in construction techniques over the millennia.
The museum’s collection is extraordinary, featuring thousands of artifacts that offer a glimpse into the technical and artistic prowess of ancient inhabitants. Among the treasures are ceramic pottery, bronze jewelry, and rare items like Baltic amber and gold. The 300 wooden objects on display form a unique collection in Europe, including everyday items like dishes, cooking utensils, tools, and even a bow with arrows. The preservation of organic materials such as foodstuffs adds an additional layer of fascination, revealing what people ate thousands of years ago.
A dedicated floor of the museum immerses visitors in the daily life of a pile dwelling village from 3500 years ago. The large-scale model of the “Fiavé 6” village, along with exhibits on farming, shepherding, domestic life, cooking, clothing, and metalworking, creates a vivid portrayal of the past. The evocative stenographic elements, replica models, and video footage further enhance this immersive experience.
