Punta San Vigilio
Place of interest – Garda, Lake Garda
Punta San Vigilio is a genuine corner of paradise located on the shores of Lake Garda, part of the municipality of Garda in the province of Verona. This enchanting peninsula, owned by the Counts Guarienti di Brenzone, is filled with art, history, and nature, creating a captivating ambiance.
Central to its allure is Villa Guarienti, a residence dating back to Roman times, and the Locanda San Vigilio, constructed in the 16th century by the humanist Agostino Brenzoni, designed by the Veronese architect Sanmicheli. This historic inn, now a hotel and restaurant, features an exquisite Italian garden with statues and terraces overlooking the lake. The villa, with its chapel and double-loggia building, also serves as a stunning wedding venue.
Throughout history, Punta San Vigilio has attracted numerous distinguished visitors, including Maria Luigia, Duchess of Parma; the King of Naples; Emperor Alexander of Russia; Winston Churchill; Otto Hahn and his wife, painter Edith Junghans; Laurence Olivier; Vivien Leigh; and Prince Charles of England.
In Punta San Vigilio, experiencing an aperitif at sunset is truly magical, a moment where time seems to stand still. Enjoy a drink at the port with friends or a loved one, as the sun dips below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the tranquil waters of Lake Garda. The Locanda San Vigilio offers the perfect setting with its charming terrace, allowing you to savor delicious local wines and appetizers while immersed in the beauty of the surroundings.
By Foot: Punta San Vigilio is almost 3 km from Garda. You can follow the lakeside walk north, but be careful, at a certain point you continue on an unpaved surface which is not suitable for children in strollers, wheelchairs with disabled and older people.
By Car: from the eastern Gardesana road (SR249) both north and south you will find, near a curve, the entrance sign to Punta San Vigilio and Baia delle Sirene. There is a car parking (for a fee only in high season).
By Boat: this is undoubtedly the most evocative and romantic way to get to Punta San Vigilio. You will find a pier for docking.
