Refuges and Huts
Best Refuges & Mountain Huts to stay in Lake Garda
Given Italians’ love for hiking and being close to nature, their hills and mountains are dotted with Refuges and Bivouacs, offering food and lodging. Note that “rifugio” can refer to anything from a smart chalet-hotel to a snack bar at the top of a cable-car line. While called a Mountain Huts in English, these can sometimes be large, comfortable rustic hotels with spacious restaurants serving excellent local dishes.
For those planning hiking adventures, the Refuges network owned by the Club Alpino Italiano is worth exploring, though booking at least ten days in advance is recommended. Despite their simplicity, the Refuges often boast magnificent settings, leaving you well-placed to continue your hike the next day. Staying in a Refuge offers a unique way to immerse yourself in Italy’s natural beauty.
